On a recent flight home from Europe, I requested an aisle seat to stretch my legs at every opportunity, unbeknownst to me my traveling companions would be a pregnant woman sitting in the middle seat and her 5-year-old son at the window. As you can imagine, I spent most of the flight standing up to let them make countless trips to the restroom.

Her son was amazingly well behaved, (I teach pre-school!) and during the long flight home, his Mom and I struck up a conversation about scrapbooking and making travel photo albums for children to look back and see all the places that they had visited. What are the odds, she owns a Cricut Expression too! So we had a lot to talk about.

My seatmate and her son were traveling back from Italy and she wanted to have a keepsake album displaying all the Italian relatives they had met for the very first time. We talked about how young children could add their own personal touches to a road trip journal. After the baby was born, she planned to make a travel memory book for her son using her Cricut Expression and a baby book for the newborn on the way.

I have always heard that when going on a journey, half the fun is getting there and that is definitely true using a Cricut Expression! It makes a scrapbooking hobby so much more enjoyable. ZooBalloo’s creator, David Walker, like most artists, is rarely without a pencil and sketchpad. When this option is used along with the Shift key, it cuts the detail layer for shapes. The Card feature cuts a rectangle card blank with the letters and shapes you select. The Box selection lets you cut letters and shapes inside an empty square frame.

The biggest selling point of Cricut cartridges to me is in the details. ZooBalloo adds an element of surprise- DRUMROLL- it includes scenery! There are waves, clouds, snow, and mountains in the set. The six Creative feature keys on the Printing Press cartridge are Tall Shadow, Tall, Character, Character Shadow, Clip, and Framed. The Creative Features perfectly complement each individual letters. With all the variety of use in Cricut cartridges, it is actually like buying several included in each cartridge purchase.

With the ‘Opposite’ Creative Feature, a bold block letter is created. The ‘Upright’ Creative Feature gives you upright script letters without the ‘tails’ of the original form. This flowing script font and artist, Cecelia Harris to show perfectly how opposites attract and compliment each other, created block lettering. She has once again proven why she is my favorite designer with her beautiful cursive font.

The Creative Features of Opposites Attract include Shadow, Opposite Shadow, Upright, Opposite, Trapezoid, and Upright Round. Your Opposites Attract cartridge includes two characters in one bonus key for additional embellishment.

You can mix letters from the ’Trapezoid’ feature and the ’Opposite’ feature. With six Creative Features, you can find just the right combination to give each project its own personality. With the Trapezoid key, you can select to cut block or script letters.

There are three different fonts for each of the vowels included in this set. The number 9 is missing from this keypad overlay so just invert the 6.

For new layout ideas, you can combine Creative Features with one of the Companion or Foundation shapes. Also, try using Mini Monograms Foundation shapes with the letters from your other Cricut cartridges.
